Epic Games has acquired Houseparty, a social video app for desktops and mobile devices
Founded in 2015, Houseparty is a free video app that allows users to chat online and leave each other video messages. In January, Houseparty integrated the HeadsUp game! and collaborated with The Ellen DeGeneres Show for a promotional event.
This is the second acquisition planned for Epic Games so far in 2019, after the developer Psyonix Studios.
According to a blog post from Houseparty, user accounts between the two companies will be kept separate. Furthermore, the data will not be shared between platforms. For the moment, the Houseparty app and its functionality will remain unchanged.
Epic Games completed a $ 1.25 billion financing round from seven companies in October including KKR, ICONIQ Capital, Smash Ventures, Team Liquid, aXiomatic Gaming, Vulcan Capital, Kleiner Perkins and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
