ESL has announced that Los Angeles will play host to an upcoming Dota 2 Major with ESL One Los Angeles on March 20th-22nd.
The event marks the first time that ESL will have hosted Dota 2 tournament on the West Coast of the states.
The tournament will be the United States’ first taste of a Dota 2 Major since 2016, with 16 qualifying teams set to compete for the lion’s share of $1,000,000 (£775,525).
ESL One Los Angeles will comprise of three phases of online qualifiers, which are set to take place across February 9-14th, for teams to qualify for the main event in March. The tournament will share 15,000 Dota Pro Circuit points among the competing teams ahead of The International 2020, Dota 2’s flagship event.
Ulrich Schulze, Senior Vice President of Product at ESL spoke to the weight of bringing Dota 2 to the West Coast in a release: “Los Angeles is known for world class entertainment and that is exactly what we aim to deliver with the L.A. Major. We are finally bringing our ESL Dota 2 flagship competition to the US West Coast for the first time and we are proud to deliver world-class Dota 2 action to the local community.
“With ESL One Los Angeles, we will put a stake in the ground to engage the US-based Dota 2 community and introduce one of our most iconic tournaments to a new location: the Shrine Auditorium conveying an absolute unique feel.”
ESL One Angeles is the third Major in this year’s Dota Pro Circuit, following MDL Chengdu Major and DreamLeague Season 13.
