Alisports has announced that DouYu will be the exclusive Chinese streaming partner of World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) for the 2019-2020 season.
DouYu will also co-host the Chinese online qualification stage, with players able to register through the streaming platform.
The online qualification stage includes Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, StarCraft Ⅱ, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2020. Influencers and streamers at DouYu will participate in, or commentate, matches during the event.
Rui Zhang, General Manager of Electronic Sports Department at Alisports commented on the deal: “As one of the top streaming platforms in China, Douyu will provide excellent online watching experience for our esports fans and cooperate with us to establish the benchmark of global esports events in the live streaming industry.”
With the ultimate goal of becoming the equivalent of the Olympics in the esports industry, Alisports is trying to popularize esports to the public through WESG.
The number of participating countries in WESG 2018-2019 has reportedlty increased to 137, which is a huge leap when compared with the 95 participating countries in the previous season.
